The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the National Teaching Council (NTC), organized a two-day symposium at the Sunset Hotel in Kumasi on Thursday, October 3, 2024, and Friday, October 4, 2024. The event concluded with a grand durbar on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Great Hall of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). This annual event aims to acknowledge and celebrate exceptional educators in Ghana.

Several distinguished guests graced the occasion, including Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education; Hon. Simon Osei Mensah, Ashanti Regional Minister; Dr. Eric Nkansah, Director General of the Ghana Education Service; Mr. Robin Todd, Executive Director of T-TEL; Rev. Isaac Owusu, President of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT); and Dr. William Kwame Amankra Appiah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, among others.

The theme for this year’s event was “Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education.” It highlighted the critical need for including teachers in policy discussions, recognizing that their perspectives are essential for shaping the future of education in Ghana.

Throughout the symposium, several notable individuals delivered goodwill messages, addressing both the challenges and progress in the educational sector. One of these speeches came from Rev. Isaac Owusu, President of GNAT, who praised Dr. Osei Adutwum for his continued support and initiatives in education, particularly in advancing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs.

During the grand durbar, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the government’s accomplishments in the education sector over the past seven years. He highlighted improvements in infrastructure, curriculum reforms, and teacher training. He also assured teachers that their concerns, raised by Rev. Owusu, would be addressed promptly and that the government remains committed to resolving these issues.
