On November 14, 2024, the ICT department of the Sunyani Municipal Education Directorate organized an insightful workshop designed to empower teachers from schools within Circuit D of the Sunyani Municipality. The primary goal of this workshop was to equip teachers with essential ICT skills, enabling them to integrate technology effectively into their teaching and learning processes.
The training session covered foundational ICT concepts, beginning with the basics of computer operations. Participants were introduced to computer fundamentals, including understanding the hardware and software components of a computer, steps for creating folders, and methods for launching computer programs. This knowledge forms the bedrock of digital literacy, which is increasingly important in today’s educational landscape.
Further, the workshop delved into practical applications such as using Microsoft Word. Teachers were trained on various components and formatting processes within Word, enhancing their ability to create structured and visually appealing documents. The session also included guidance on creating presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint, a skill intended to help teachers deliver lessons more effectively and engagingly.
A section on Microsoft Excel was particularly valuable, providing teachers with the tools to organize and manage student assessment results efficiently. By the end of the workshop, teachers were equipped with new ICT competencies to enhance lesson preparation, classroom engagement, and student record-keeping.
This initiative by the Sunyani Municipal Education Directorate underscores a commitment to fostering digital literacy among educators, ensuring they are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of modern education.
